Audience Feedback

In conclusion we feel that the audience seem to like our ideas however not our particular genre. Although we feel we have a strong idea and thus only incorporated some of the audience feedback as opposed to everything.

The audience who put no to this question when asked why told us that performance shots often have a tendency to distract from the narrative which is often entwined with the video. This told us that we shouldn't use performance shots which we had originally planned to do.

This tells us that location plays a fundamental role in music videos whilst also allowing the audience to feel that the video is more enjoyable because of the variety.

As our video is quite unique we were very happy when we found out that the majority of people preferred unique videos to quite conventional videos. This is because it gives them something new and original to watch

This was an important question as it is incredibly relevant to our idea for a music video. Whilst the majority preferred to have a linear and easy to follow structure, many people seemed to enjoy non linear as well. The majority of the non linear likers, were female and thus gave us a better idea of our target audience.

This is obviously an important question as our coursework consists of creating a music video. Once we have the relevant information we can understand if the digipak would prove more valuable than the music video. Luckily the majority liked music videos.

Favourite music genre was used obviously to let us know what kind of genre's are popular, however our initial idea was to go for a soundtrack and not something popular. But instead we went with the well known band Gorillaz instead thus hitting quite a large audience.

Once again this question is designed specifically to help us determine who our target audience consists of. However as with the first question it does not provide an accurate variety of age groups. Generally only people of our own age groups are in the questionnaire and this is because we generally only know those of our own age.

The first question was designed so that we could accurately determine who our target audience would most likely be. However one of the problems easily detected is that we did not ask an equal amount of people from each sex. This means we did not get an accurate general response from our female target audience

Final Video

Magazine Poster 2

Please click to enlarge
This is my poster for the Digipak I chose an easy to manipulate image so that we could show our diversity however it misses some fundamental information such as website and release date. Whilst i feel the poster is effective we have decided to choose Tom's poster as it is overall more attention grabbing.

Magazine Advert

^Please click to make bigger^

This is our magazine advert to coincide with the digi-pack release, and as you can see i made the centre point of the advert to be the image of the artist in the iconic gas mask, a theme which both resonates throughout the video and is also the main image used on the front of the CD cover. I went for a high contrast between the black in the background and the reds in the foreground to create a very striking first impression, something that will catch the viewers attention. The original image of the artist in the gas mask was very dark when incorporated into the design, so to counteract this i duplicated the image and made it a lot brighter, then doubled it over the original with the opacity tool. the initial logo was constructed in adobe illustrator, and then i assembled the whole poster in adobe photoshop. I found a set of brushes i thought were suitable to make an interesting border, and i added in the little details that make the difference between unrealistic and realistic, i.e shops you can buy the digi-pack and the record label logo.

Complete Album Cover

Please Click The Above Image To See It In A Larger Scale

This is the complete cover for our Digipak. As mentioned before the outer covers are supposed to contrast the inner covers. I have added a barcode and price onto the back of the album cover to add to its realism. The inner covers are all what i felt as strong images of Tom. After having edited them and added the plastic CD holder I felt the images should all differentiate in colour. The first image shows Tom in a relaxed pose. I then put a chalk and charcoal filter onto it and then changed colour levels to a vibrant orange. The center picture was the most difficult of the 3 inner covers as the black background is made up of "White, Light and Alcohol" the particular shot from our video had a black curtain and thus the black background writing fits in even more effectively. The third image shows Tom disregarding the camera to create it I had to use a chalk and charcoal filter and then invert the colours and finally add a red colour balance onto it. The overall product seems effective and almost realistic.

Album Cover Construction

This is the incomplete album cover we are planning to use. The images are all taken directly from our video and have been edited in Photoshop CS4 as the designer of the album cover I felt a dark outer cover and a light inner cover should be used. The image above shows the three outer covers. As the middle one will be on the back it has the song names listed so that when the target audience picks it up they can see if the song they want to listen to is on the album. The picture with the gas mask and T.D.B written on it is to be the front cover and the green image has copyright and trademark information written on the back. The three inner covers however are not yet done but they are supposed to be light with images of Tom being the focus as opposed to images of tom in the gas mask.

Example Digipak

We hope to make a digipak similar to this one. The design will have 6 covers (3 outer and 3 inner) that we will put images directly from our music video on. Also we will use a two disc digipak instead of the one. The second disc will be bonus materials and extra footage. Also we hope to possibly include an artbook however this may be a bit difficult due to time issues.

Example Album Covers

SMOKE & MIRRORS

This album cover uses smoke as the image whilst it is basic it is also effective. Although we are planning to use smoke in the image we are planning to have another image as well. Also we plan on using more smoke and a yellow light.

TAKE MY BREATH AWAY

This album uses a strong image that also is relevant to the title. The album is colorful and eye catching, also because of the powerful image it makes people look twice. The image is shows children in gas masks which is quite relevant to today's society where children are under threat from terrorism and war. Because the gas mask played a key role in our video we felt we should incorporate it into our CD cover. By combining the gas mask with the smoke we hope to create a foreboding image that catches the audiences eye.

Overall the two covers incorporate two major images we plan on using in our cover and we feel they would work effectively with each other by using smoke and a single image we hope to avoid an overfilled cover but also we sidestep the obstacle of having an isolated image that could make the album look unappealing to potential buyers of the album.

SPACE MONKEYZ

Space Monkeyz was formed by Darren Galea coming together when he created a dub remix of "Tomorrow Comes Today". Once the Gorillaz founder Damon Albarn had listened to the song he subsequently asked the group to remix the entire album resulting in "Laika Come Home" its only single "Lil' Dub Chefin" only managing to hit number 73 in the singles chart.

Like the Gorillaz, they are a virtual band (though not to the degree that Gorillaz are). According to the fictional Gorillaz biography Rise of the Ogre the group is an actual team of monkeys used in space tests who had stolen the tracks from an unattended Kong Studios and remixed them without Gorillaz’ permission. Having actually been mentioned in the fictional Gorrilaz biography it shows that they are quite well affiliated with the band and also have a good relationship with them. This particular example also shows how bands can be successfully formed on a remix and then proceed to become (slightly) famous.

Music Video Equipment

Before we were able to begin shooting we had to ensure the smoke machine was warmed up and working and had to familiarize ourselves with the lighting control panel. Once we had learnt how to use the equipment we were able to utilize it to enhance the viewing experience of the music video. Having used this equipment it has helped us gain new skills and taught us how to effectively use the lighting for greater effect.
